Something for everyone:

We have a full menu of options for beginners and experienced sailors, ranging from Adventure Week for kids through Adult Classes to personalized private instruction for kids and adults. Check each of our offerings below, check the calendar, then sign up!”to offer sailing at least through August 14. We may be able to extend this until the end of August, but that remains uncertain. We have opened registration for our first two weeks, to see how things shake out. We will open registration for the latter half of our season shortly.

Advanced Adventure Week will run Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to  4 PM, August 17 through August 20.  This session  is designed for sailors who love sailing and have at least 2 weeks prior experience, ages 10-17.  These more experienced sailors will have opportunities to sail different classes of boats and expand their skills on the water with challenges and games, including opportunities to learn and practice racing techniques. This class will include fun, safe activities on the water.

Maximum capacity is 10 students.

Weeks of July 27 and August 3: Half-day Adventure Weeks run Monday through Thursday, 9AM to 12PM.  These sessions are designed for all skill levels ages 9-17.  Beginner students will learn the basics of sailing at a comfortable pace with expert instruction. More experienced sailors will have opportunities to sail different classes of boats and expand their skills with on the water challenges and games. This class will include fun, safe activities on the water. Children age 7 – 8 with previous sailing experience and prior communication between parent/guardian with the head instructor may be approved to take this class.

Maximum capacity is 6 students.  Session will run only if at least 4 students enroll by the previous Monday.  Please sign up for the wait list.  If the session runs, you will be enrolled and billed automatically.

NOTE: Due to the pandemic, by default there will be only one sailor per boat.    Prior communication between parents/guardians with SSA staff will be required for two sailors to sail on a boat.  In these cases, the sailors must be from the same household or from an already existing, low-risk cohort of sailors known to each other.  In addition, to minimize chances of exposure, sailors must wear masks/buffs when on land.

These 3-hour sessions offer opportunities for children and adults with prior sailing experience to have fun sailing on different classes of boats (Optis, Lasers, and/or 420’s).  Maximum capacity is 6 sailors.  There is no formal instruction: SSA staff will offer supervision on rigging and de-rigging boats and water safety.

NOTE: Due to the pandemic, if there are two sailors on a boat, they must be from the same household or from an already existing, low-risk cohort of sailors known to each other.  Prior communication between parents/guardians with SSA staff will be required.  In addition, to minimize chances of exposure, sailors must wear masks when on land.

This is a 3-hour session for up to 2 children, ages 7-17.  For newer/younger sailors (ages 7-9), lessons will take place on Optimist Dinghies,  single handed boats tailored towards newer/younger sailors. Students will learn the basics of rigging the Optimists, boat handling, sailing fundamentals, seamanship, sportsmanship, and water safety. Instruction is done in Optimist with either 1 or 2 sailors per boat.  For more experienced and/or older sailors (ages 9-17), lessons will take place in Optis, Lasers and/or 420’s, depending on a student’s size, experience, and maturity.   Sailors will expand their skills on the water with various challenges and games. This class will include fun, safe activities on the water.

NOTE: Due to the pandemic, by default, children will NOT be placed in boats together.  If there are two or more sailors on a boat, they must be from the same household or from an already existing, low-risk cohort of children known to each other.  Prior communication between parents/guardians with SSA staff will be required.  In addition, to minimize chances of exposure, sailors must wear masks when on land.

This is a three-hour session for one or two adults from the same household or from an already-existing, low-risk cohort, age 18 years and older. Instruction may be tailored to specific interests or needs, depending on the circumstances. Students would sail on either 420s or Flying Scots.  Please contact SSA directly to schedule private instruction for adults  —  senecasailingacademy@gmail.com

Staff at sailing academies around CNY are currently working to see if Inter-Club regattas can still be offered. We will announce any plans when we know them.
